TikTok engagement rate calculator
Enter a video’s views, likes, comments, shares and saves — or averages across your recent videos — to see how strongly people reacted.
Calculated in your browser — nothing you enter is sent or stored.
How it’s calculated
Engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100.
TikTok doesn’t publish a single engagement-rate formula. Measuring against views is the common choice, because on a For You platform most people who see a video don’t follow the account — dividing by followers can wildly overstate or understate a video.
Why views, not followers
A TikTok from an account with 800 followers can reach 200,000 people, and one from an account with 200,000 followers can stall at 3,000. Views are what the reactions actually came from, so they give the honest rate. If you’re putting a follower-based figure in a media kit, label it so brands know which one they’re looking at.
Not all engagement is equal
Shares and saves say more than likes. A share sends the video to someone new; a save means the viewer wants to come back to it. The breakdown under your result shows which reactions carry your videos — if saves are high, lean into tutorials, lists and tips.
Getting the numbers
Likes, comments, shares and saves appear on every public video. For your own account, each video’s analytics also shows watch time, average watch time and how many viewers finished it — the signals that matter most for reach.
Tips to improve your numbers
- Hook in the first second; a strong opening keeps people watching long enough to react.
- Ask viewers to save useful videos — “save this for later” works when the video genuinely is.
- Reply to comments with a video. It turns one comment into your next post.
- Pin your best-performing videos so profile visitors see what you do best.

Frequently asked questions
Should saves count as engagement?
Most creators include them — a save is a strong signal. Set saves to 0 if you want the narrower likes-comments-shares rate.
Why does my rate drop on viral videos?
Viral videos reach people outside your usual audience, who react less often. A lower rate on a much bigger view count is normal.
Can I calculate a whole account?
Yes — add up views and reactions across your last 10–20 videos and enter the totals.
Is my data private?
Yes. The maths runs in your browser; nothing is sent to us.
