How to read your results

The audit turns an account's public data into a handful of scores. Here is what each one means and what to look for.

Account trust score

The headline percentage is an overall estimate of how likely the account and its audience are to be genuine. It combines the other signals below. Use it as a quick summary, then look at the details to see what is pulling it up or down.

Follower quality: real vs fake

The bar splits the account's followers into an estimated share of real followers and fake or low-quality ones (bots and inactive accounts). Almost every account has some fake followers, because bots follow popular accounts on their own. A small fake share is normal; a large one means much of the follower count is not a real audience.

Engagement rate

The average likes and comments per post, as a percentage of followers. It is the clearest test of whether followers are real, because bots do not engage. As a rough guide, many established accounts see engagement of around 1–3%, and smaller accounts often see more. An account with a huge following and an engagement rate far below that is a warning sign.

Engagement quality

Not all engagement is equal. This score estimates how much of the account's engagement looks genuine, rather than coming from engagement pods, bots or bought likes with no real audience behind them.

Following quality

Looks at the accounts this profile follows. Accounts that follow thousands of others, especially spam or bot accounts, often use follow-for-follow tactics, which brings in followers who never engage.

Follower / following ratio

Followers divided by accounts followed. Creators and brands usually have far more followers than they follow. A ratio near 1, on an account with thousands of both, often means growth came from following others back.

Signs of fake followers you can check yourself

• Engagement that does not match the follower count: 100,000 followers and 40 likes per post.
• Sudden jumps in follower count with no viral post or press to explain them.
• Followers with no posts, no profile photo or usernames that are strings of letters and numbers.
• Generic comments such as "Nice pic 🔥" repeated across posts, often from the same accounts.
• An audience in the wrong country: a local business whose followers are mostly from places it does not serve.

Checking an influencer before you pay

If you are about to pay a creator for a post, run their account through the checker first. Compare the trust score and engagement rate with similar accounts in their niche, and ask the creator for their own audience insights (country, age and reach on recent posts). A creator with a smaller but genuine audience is often a better deal than one with a bigger, inflated count.

If your own account has fake followers

• Remove obvious bots: you can remove followers from your follower list in the Instagram app.
• Stop follow-for-follow and giveaway tactics that attract low-quality accounts.
• Post consistently for your real audience, so engagement rate recovers as real followers outnumber inactive ones.
