Why comments carry more weight than likes

A like costs someone half a second. A comment means somebody stopped, read and typed - so people treat comments as proof that a post started a conversation. A post with a few thousand likes and no comments looks strangely quiet; add a handful of real-looking comments and it reads as alive. Comments also invite more comments: most people are more willing to join a thread than to start one.

The discount grows with the number of packs, from 5% at two up to 50% at the largest orders.

Keep it believable

Twenty comments on a post with 90 likes looks strange; five looks normal. Match comments to the rest of the post's engagement, and spread delivery over a few days if you're adding a lot - the order form offers everything from quick delivery to a month, at the same price.

What the comments say

The post link, nothing else. No password or login. Keep the account public and comments switched on for that post until delivery completes.

How to use comments well

The best use of comments is to make a thread feel lived-in so real followers join in. A few things help:

• Reply to them. A post where the creator answers comments reads as an active community, and replies also count as activity on the post.
• Ask a question in the caption. "Which colour would you pick?" gives visitors an easy reason to add their own comment next to the ones already there.
• Use them on posts that matter. Launches, giveaways, a new product - comments do more on those than on everyday posts.
• Pair with likes. Comments with almost no likes look odd. A modest order of likes alongside keeps the numbers in proportion.

If comments disappear
