Social media post reach estimator
Estimate a post’s reach from your follower count and typical reach rate, plus the extra reach that shares bring.
Calculated in your browser — nothing you enter is sent or stored.
How it’s calculated
Reach = followers × reach rate + shares × average followers of sharers × reach rate.
The reach rate is the share of your followers who typically see a post. It varies by platform, account and format, so the example range is only a placeholder. Find your own: in your insights, divide “accounts reached” by followers for your last ten posts and use the lowest and highest values.
Why a range
No platform shows every post to every follower. How many see it depends on timing, format, how early viewers react and how often you post. A range between your weaker and stronger posts is more honest than one number.
Shares extend reach
Every share puts the post in front of a new audience. The second part of the formula estimates that extra reach, using the same reach rate for the sharers’ followers. It’s a rough model — a share from one large account can outweigh dozens of small ones.
Reach versus impressions
Reach counts people; impressions count views, including repeat views by the same person. This estimator is about reach. For engagement on the post itself, see our engagement rate calculators for TikTok, YouTube, X and LinkedIn.
Tips to improve your numbers
- Work out your real reach rate from insights before trusting the estimate.
- Post when your audience is active; early engagement widens reach.
- Formats that platforms push (short video on most networks) usually reach beyond followers.
- Give people a reason to share — useful, funny or timely posts travel.
