Earning real shares too

People share videos that make them look helpful or funny to their friends. A clear title that says who the video is for ("for anyone starting a garden") and a short, sendable length both help. Asking directly - "send this to someone planning a trip" - works more often than you'd expect.

A worked example

An Indian personal-finance channel posts a video on filing taxes before the deadline. It adds 200 Indian shares ($7.20) and ends the video with "send this to a friend who always files late". The video spreads through messages in the days before the deadline.

Where to see shares in your analytics

In YouTube Studio, open the video's analytics and look under Engagement or in the advanced mode for shares. YouTube also shows traffic sources - external sites, messaging apps and other platforms - so you can see where shared views arrive from. It's a good way to learn which of your videos people actually pass on, and to make more like them.

Shares with views and likes

A shared video should show activity where people land. If you're adding shares to a new upload, pair them with a modest order of views and likes so the video people arrive at looks watched and enjoyed. Three small orders in sensible proportion usually look more natural than one large one.

Shares for Shorts

Shorts are made to be passed around, and the share button sits right beside them. If your channel grows mostly through Shorts, they're a natural place for shares - paste the Short's own link when ordering.
