People read recommendations before they trust you

Facebook replaced star ratings on Pages with recommendations: a simple yes or no, plus a written comment. For a local business, that section is often the deciding factor. Someone thinking about booking a table, a haircut or a repair scrolls down to see what others said, and a Page with none - or one or two - plants doubt at exactly the wrong moment.

An honest note first

Recommendations are only worth something when they reflect real experiences. Meta's rules prohibit fake reviews, and in the US the Federal Trade Commission's rule on fake reviews, in force since 2024, allows penalties for businesses that buy or publish reviews misrepresenting real customer experiences. Other countries have similar consumer-protection laws. Use this service to supplement genuine recommendations - for example, to give a new Page a start while you ask real customers to leave theirs - not to stand in for them.

Added gradually

Recommendations are delivered over three to four days, so they build up the way genuine reviews would rather than appearing on one afternoon. Your Page must have recommendations switched on (the Reviews tab visible) for them to post.

Collect the real ones too

• Ask happy customers directly - a short message with the link to your Page's reviews section works far better than hoping they find it.
• Put a QR code at the counter or on receipts.
• Reply to every recommendation, positive or not. Visitors notice businesses that respond.

Specific wording

Standard orders are positive and general. If you want recommendations to mention something specific, contact support before ordering.

Responding to recommendations

Replies are where a review section really works. Thank people by name for positive recommendations, and answer critical ones calmly with what you'll do about it. A thoughtful reply to a complaint often reassures new customers more than another five positive reviews, because it shows how you behave when something goes wrong.

When not to buy recommendations

• If your Page already has a healthy number of genuine recommendations - more won't change much, and real ones carry more weight.
• If you're in a regulated field such as health, finance or legal services, where endorsements are tightly controlled.
• If your plan is to drown out genuine complaints - that's exactly what consumer-protection rules target, and fixing the underlying problem works better.
