Connections compared with followers

A LinkedIn connection is two-way: both people accept, both see each other's activity, and both can message each other directly. Followers only see your posts. Connections also widen your network: second-degree connections, people your connections know, can find you more easily in search and see your activity when your connections react to it.

LinkedIn's own limits

LinkedIn caps a profile at 30,000 connections and limits how many invitations you can send each week, which is why growing a network by hand is slow.
