Polls in WhatsApp Channels

WhatsApp Channels are one-way broadcasts: the admin posts updates, followers read them and react with emoji. Followers cannot reply in the channel, so polls are one of the few ways they can take part. A poll shows the question, the answers and the vote count, and followers see the results once they have voted. A channel whose polls get plenty of votes looks like one with an active audience; a channel whose polls get a handful looks like one people have muted.

WhatsApp poll votes add votes to a poll in your channel. They raise the total, and they can go on the answer you want to lead.

How channel polls work

Channel admins create a poll from the attachment menu, the same way as in a chat. A poll can allow one answer or several. In a channel, followers' votes are not shown to other followers, so the poll shows totals and the share for each answer. As the admin, you can see the results as they come in.

How WhatsApp poll votes work

• Post the poll in your channel.
• Copy the link to that update: in the channel, tap and hold the poll and choose the option to copy or share its link.
• Place the order with that link and the amount you want.
• Tell us the answer: send your order number and the answer through our contact page. Without it, votes are spread across the answers.

A channel update link looks like whatsapp.com/channel/… followed by the update's number. The channel link alone is not enough, because votes go on one poll.

Who buys WhatsApp poll votes

• Brands and shops asking followers which product or offer they want.
• Creators letting followers choose the next topic.
• News and sports channels polling followers on the day's story.
• Communities and clubs asking members about events and times.
• Channel owners who use polls to keep a quiet audience involved.

A note on contests

If a poll decides a prize or a competition, read its rules first. Many contests forbid paid votes. Poll votes suit polls you run in your own channel to show followers taking part.

Write polls followers answer

Keep polls short: one clear question and a few answers that fit on a phone screen. Ask about things followers have an opinion on, such as what you post next, which design they prefer or when they would like an event. Post the result in a follow-up update and say what you will do with it. Followers who see their vote make a difference are more likely to vote next time.

How many votes look natural

Keep votes in proportion to your channel's followers and the views on your updates. A channel with 400 followers and a poll with 5,000 votes looks wrong. A channel with a few thousand followers might see a few hundred votes on a good poll. When you put votes on one answer, leave the other answers with a believable share rather than none.

A worked example

A clothing shop with a WhatsApp Channel posts a poll asking followers which of three colours it should stock for the winter range. It orders a modest number of votes spread across the answers so the poll looks well answered from the first hour. Followers vote too, and the shop posts the winning colour a few days later with a launch date, followed by a reminder on the day. Its next poll gets more votes on its own. The shop now runs a poll before every new range, and uses the results to decide how much of each item to order from its suppliers, so the polls save it money as well as keeping followers involved.

Grow the channel around polls

Polls give followers a reason to open your channel, and an open channel is one they do not mute. Mention upcoming polls in your other updates, share the channel link in your status, on your website and on other social profiles, and tell new followers that they can vote on what you post. A regular poll, on the same day each week, gives followers a habit to come back to.

Before you order

• Use the link to the poll update, not just the channel.
• Do not delete the poll while the order runs.
• If you want votes on one answer, send it with your order number through the contact page.

What poll votes do not do

Poll votes add votes to the poll. They do not add followers or emoji reactions, and they do not decide where your channel appears in the WhatsApp Channels directory. For those, see WhatsApp Channel followers and WhatsApp Channel post reactions.

No number or login needed

We only need the link to the poll update. We never ask for your phone number, WhatsApp login or a verification code, and nothing is posted from your account.
