What this service is

On Instagram, typing @ followed by a username turns it into a link. When that happens in a comment, everyone reading the comments can tap the name and land on the account. Instagram mentions add comments that mention your @username under one public post you choose. The people reading that post see your name come up more than once, and some of them tap through to your profile.

It is a simple way to put a name in front of an audience that already cares about a topic: a post you were featured in, a collaboration, an event you took part in, or a giveaway you are running.

What we do not do

Some panels sell "mentions" that tag long lists of strangers so they get a notification. That is spam: it bothers people who never asked to hear from you, and it is the kind of activity Instagram restricts. We do not offer it. The only username these comments mention is yours, and they go under one post you pick.

Good places for mentions

• A post that features you, such as a collaboration, an interview or a guest appearance.
• An event post from an organiser, where you performed, spoke or exhibited.
• Your own giveaway or launch post, so your handle is easy to find in the comments.
• A partner's post about a product you make or a service you provide, with their agreement.

If the post belongs to someone else, choose one where your name is relevant and welcome. Comments that look out of place are likely to be hidden or deleted by the post's owner, and that is their right.

How Instagram mentions work

• Choose the post and copy its link from the share menu.
• Place the order with that link and the amount you want.
• Tell us your @username: send your order number and the username to mention through our contact page.

A post link looks like instagram.com/p/… or instagram.com/reel/…. Both the post and the account you want mentioned must be public. A private account's name still shows as a link, but people who tap it cannot see its posts, so the visit is wasted.

Prepare your profile for visitors

Mentions only work if the visit leads somewhere. Before you order, check that your profile has a clear photo, a bio that says who you are in one line, a link that goes somewhere useful, and recent posts that represent you well. Pin your three best posts to the top of the grid. A visitor who taps your name and finds a tidy, active profile is far more likely to follow than one who finds three posts from last year.

How many mentions look natural

Keep the number small compared with the comments already on the post. On a post with a few hundred comments, a dozen or two mentioning you looks like people pointing others to you. On a post with five comments, fifty mentions takes over the comment section and looks forced. Mentions are best used on posts with an active comment section already.

A worked example

A coffee roaster supplies beans to a café that posts a Reel about its new seasonal drink. With the café's agreement, the roaster orders a modest number of mentions on the Reel. Readers of the comments see the roaster's name come up, tap through, and find a profile with roasting videos and a link to its online shop. The roaster thanks the café in its own story and the two plan a joint post for the next season.

Mentions and collaborations

If you work with another account often, Instagram's Collab feature is worth knowing. A collab post appears on both profiles with both names at the top, and it shares likes and comments between them. Mentions in the comments work well alongside it, or on posts where a collab was not set up, so that readers who scroll the comments still find your name.

Ask before you comment on a partner's post

When the post belongs to a partner, tell them first. Most are glad to see their post busy with comments, and a quick message avoids surprises. It also means they are less likely to hide the comments, and more likely to reply to them, which keeps your name near the top.

What mentions do not do

Mentions add comments that tag your username under the post you choose. They do not follow you, like your posts or send messages, and they do not guarantee profile visits or followers. Those depend on how interesting your name and profile look to the people reading.
