What social signals are

"Social signals" is the name SEO people use for activity on social networks that points to a web page: pins, shares, reblogs, votes and likes on posts that link to your URL. If a blog post of yours is pinned on Pinterest, reblogged on Tumblr, shared on VK or upvoted on Reddit, each of those is a signal that people found the page worth passing on.

What they do for search, honestly

Many sellers of social signals promise better Google rankings. We won't, because Google has said publicly that it doesn't use social shares or likes as a direct ranking factor, and links from social networks are usually marked so they don't pass ranking value. • create public links to a new page, which can help people and crawlers find it;

Choose the network

• Pinterest: pins and saves of your page, a good fit for recipes, design, fashion, crafts, travel and anything visual. Packages from 1,000 upwards.
• Tumblr: reblogs and likes of a post linking to your page, suited to creative, fandom and niche content. Packages from 5,000 upwards.
• VK: shares and likes on VK, for pages aimed at Russian-speaking readers. Packages from 100 upwards.

Get the page ready

Social signals bring people to a page, so the page should be worth arriving at. Check that it loads quickly on a phone, has a clear title and a good image, and that the image and description look right when the link is shared. Most networks read your page's preview tags (Open Graph) to build the card people see, so test the link in each network's sharing tool before you order.

Signals alongside real promotion

The pages that do best combine bought signals with real sharing. Pin your own images to your Pinterest boards, post the page in relevant Tumblr tags, share it in communities where it is genuinely useful (and where the rules allow it), and mention it in your newsletter. A worked example

A food blogger publishes a detailed recipe with step-by-step photos and a strong main image. Measure what signals do

Use your analytics to see what happens after an order. In Google Analytics or a similar tool, look at referral traffic from the network you chose, and at whether those visitors read, subscribe or buy. Keep it believable
