Why story views matter

Stories are where many Instagram accounts do their day-to-day talking: behind-the-scenes clips, quick announcements, polls, links and offers. Unlike posts, stories disappear after 24 hours, so they live or die in their first few hours. When you open a story's viewer list, the number at the bottom tells you how many people watched it, and it is the figure brands, clients and collaborators often ask for when they want to know how far an account really reaches.

Who can see story views

Instagram shows a story's view count and viewer list only to the account that posted it. Visitors do not see the number on your stories. That makes story views different from likes or reel views: they matter most for your own insights, for the figures you report to brands and clients, and for keeping your story numbers consistent with the rest of your account.

How story views work

You give us your Instagram username or profile link, not a link to a single story. Views are delivered to the stories that are active on your account when the order runs. Because stories expire after 24 hours, timing matters:

• Post your stories first, then place the order while they are live.
• Order early in the 24-hour window, so delivery has time to finish before the stories expire.
• For a story you want to keep, add it to a Highlight. Highlights stay on your profile after the 24 hours are up.

How many views look natural

On most active accounts, a story is watched by a share of the account's followers, and that share is usually well below the follower count. A story with more views than the account has followers is possible when a story is shared widely, but it looks odd if every story does it. As a rough guide:

• Under 1,000 followers: a few hundred views per story.
• A few thousand followers: views at a healthy share of your follower count.
• Larger accounts: scale in line with what your best stories already receive.

Keeping your story views consistent from day to day looks more natural than one huge spike followed by stories with almost no viewers.

Make the stories worth watching

Views bring a story its audience; the story decides whether people tap through to the next one or swipe away. A few habits help every story you post:

• Open with movement or a question, since viewers decide in the first second.
• Use stickers: polls, quizzes, question boxes and countdowns invite taps and replies.
• Add a link sticker to the product, booking page or article the story is about.
• Keep text short and readable, away from the top and bottom edges where Instagram's buttons sit.
• Post a sequence of three to five stories rather than one, so there is a story to follow.

Stories alongside the rest of your account

Story views work best as part of a consistent picture. Your follower count, your reel views, the likes on your posts and the viewers on your stories should tell the same story about your account. If you are growing followers, keeping story views in proportion avoids a profile where thousands follow but almost nobody watches. Many accounts pair story views with followers or reel views so every part of the profile grows together.

A worked example

A fitness coach is pitching a supplement brand for a paid story campaign. The brand asks for the coach's average story views. Over the following week the coach posts a short daily story sequence with a poll and a link sticker, orders story views on the days they post, and saves the best sequence to a Highlight called "Results". When the brand asks again, the coach shares story insights that reflect a consistently watched account, alongside the poll results from real followers.
