What server boosts are

On Discord, members with Nitro (or who buy boosts separately) can boost a server. Every boost counts towards the server's boost level, and each level unlocks perks for everyone in the server. Boosts are shown in the server's member list with a pink boost badge next to boosters' names, and the server's level is shown at the top of the channel list.

Discord server boosts add boosts to your server, raising its level so you can unlock the perks that come with it.

Boost levels and perks

Discord sets how many boosts each level needs and what it unlocks, and it updates the list from time to time. At the time of writing, Level 1 needs 2 boosts, Level 2 needs 7 and Level 3 needs 14. Perks tied to boost levels have included:

• More emoji and sticker slots for your community's own emotes.
• Higher audio quality in voice channels.
• Better streaming quality for Go Live and screen share.
• An animated server icon, an invite background and a server banner.
• Larger upload limits for everyone in the server.
• A custom invite link (vanity URL) at Level 3.

How Discord server boosts work

• Create an invite link to your server that does not expire and has no use limit.
• Paste it on the order form, choose the amount and check out.
• Watch your boost level rise in the Server Boost section.

An invite link looks like discord.gg/YourInvite. Boosting accounts need to join the server to boost it, so the invite must stay valid and your server's verification level must let them in. If your server uses a membership screening step or a verification bot, make sure new members can complete it.

How long boosts last

Each boost lasts for the period of the option you choose on the order form. Boosts are tied to the boosting account's subscription, so when that period ends the boost is removed and your level can drop. Plan to renew before your boosts run out if you want to keep the perks.

Many members with Nitro are happy to boost a server they love, especially when they know what the next level unlocks. Post a short message about it, give boosters a special role and colour (Discord can do this automatically), and thank boosters in an announcements channel. Real boosters strengthen your level and show that members value the server.

A worked example

A community for an indie game has 3,000 members and one boost. Members keep asking for more custom emoji and better audio for weekly game nights. The admins order enough boosts to reach Level 2, add a banner and twenty custom emoji designed by the game's artist, and turn on higher audio quality in the events channel. They post a message thanking boosters and explaining what Level 3 would unlock. Several members with Nitro add boosts of their own, and the server reaches Level 3 and claims its vanity URL.

Give boosters a reason to stay

Create a special booster role with its own colour and a private channel, and thank boosters publicly. Discord can assign the booster role automatically. Members who boost feel recognised, and others see that boosting is valued in your community, which encourages more of them to boost when they can.

Keep your server secure

Turn on two-factor authentication for admins and never give anyone a bot token or admin role to deliver boosts. We never need either.

Before you order

• Use a non-expiring invite link with no use limit.
• Make sure new accounts can join and pass verification.
• Check the boost period of the option you choose.

What boosts do not do

Boosts raise your server's boost level. They do not chat, take part in events or grow your active community, and they do not change Discord's rules for your server. Activity comes from your real members.
