Avoid replying with links to your product in every answer: many communities treat that as spam.

A worked example

A developer posts a free open-source tool in a programming subreddit, following its self-promotion rules. They add 30 upvotes and 20 comments ($7.60 with the 5% package discount) soon after posting. Readers who open the thread find a discussion already under way, ask their own questions, and the developer answers each one over the afternoon.

Comments on your own profile posts

Posts made to your Reddit profile, rather than a subreddit, are seen by your followers. Comments there work the same way and are not affected by subreddit rules, which makes them a good fit for creators and businesses who post updates to their profile.

Which posts deserve comments

• Questions and requests for feedback. "What do you think of this design?" looks odd with no answers.
• Launches and announcements in communities that allow them, where readers want to see others' reactions before trying something.

• Posts that are already climbing, where a stronger thread helps them hold their position.

Keep it believable

Real Reddit threads have a mix: some short replies, some longer ones, a few questions and the occasional disagreement. Ordered comments are positive and general, so they work best as a starting point for real discussion. Do not order comments for every post you make in the same subreddit, and space orders out over time. Communities notice patterns, and a natural pace protects your account's reputation.
