Ways To Get More LinkedIn Profile Views

1. Upload a current, professional head shot.

Sure, you may already have a photo in place, but is it crisp, clear, and less than 5 years old? Is it free from distractions in the background? If not, spend a little money to have a professional photo taken. Request a digital version so that you can easily upload it to your LinkedIn profile page. LinkedIn reports that users with a photo in their profile receive 21 times more profile views.

2. Edit your headline.

The headline, which appears right below your photo, should be 120 characters of hard-hitting keywords and phrases your target audience is most interested in. Yes, you can use your current job title, if that’s most relevant to your future plans, or you can describe your key skills. Says Lowe, “This may be the first, and the only thing that people see and they will use it to judge whether or not to review the rest of your profile.”

3. Use symbols to separate titles or skills.

One additional step you’ll want to take, according to Lowe, is to “Separate keywords or phrases with a delimiter [a symbol]. Some people use a star or an asterisk while others use graphics characters in another font. Separating phrases in this way makes them stand out and thereby looks impressive.”

4. Craft a comprehensive summary.

The summary, which appears just below your headline at the top of the page, is your opportunity to position yourself as a knowledgeable expert who is well-versed in his or her industry. Lowe advises to write in the first person, using a conversational style, and start by describing your industry and some of the issues, challenges, or opportunities it is currently facing, and where you see it going in the next few years. This is a narrative, not a copy-and-paste from your resume, and should provide a sense of the type of person you are as well as your skills and abilities. LinkedIn recommends including at least 40 words to increase your odds of appearing in search, but go longer than 40 words.

5. Change the URL LinkedIn assigned you.

When you first set up your profile, or when you finish doing it now, LinkedIn assigned you a custom URL that was a combination of letters and numbers. You don’t want that, says Lowe. Instead, you want to change it, ideally to your first and last name. If that’s not possible, use your middle initial or middle name. Add at least five skills related to your business or profession. According to LinkedIn, users with at least five skills receive 17 times more profile views than users who do not list professional skills. If you can add more than five, do.
