4 Facebook Posts Guaranteed to Get More Likes and Comments

1. Post Pictures

Most Facebook marketers know that posting photos will generate engagement from fans.

We live in a visual world – and with more Facebook users than ever using mobile devices to scan their news feeds, visual posts are more important than ever.

Why do people (and their eyeballs) gravitate toward visual content like pictures?

Because pictures and graphics are often easier to consume – and usually more fun to share.

Here’s my advice for posting images on your Facebook business page:

  • Don’t violate copyright – I’m no lawyer, but I know you shouldn’t slap your logo on an image you didn’t create
  • Post graphics you make yourself (when possible)
  • Take and post photos with your phone (just make sure they aren’t blurry)
  • Don’t clutter your images with text
  • Mix it up – add in illustrations, memes, videos & infographics to compliment your photos
  • Don’t only post photos if you’re trying to drive traffic to a website – that’s what link posts are for!

2. Post Fill-in-the-Blanks

Use fill-in-the-blank posts if you love getting comments on your posts!

I’ve found that people love to offer their input on these types of posts.

Here’s my advice for posting fill-in-the-blank posts on Facebook:

  • Keep the post short – 80-100 characters
  • Personalize the update – appeal to the values & emotions of your fans
  • Ask for short answers (preferably one word) – engagement will suffer if the post requires writing an entire sentence
  • Don’t be afraid to stray off topic – not every update has to be about your product or niche

Here’s an example that could work for any business:

My all-time favorite band is ________.

3. Ask Questions

We often generate lots of engagement on the Post Planner Facebook page by simply asking questions.

If you need inspiration, check out our Status Ideas Engine for suggestions about questions, fill-in-the-blanks, trivia, quotes and lots of other kinds of posts.

Here’s my advice on asking good questions on Facebook:

  • Keep the question short – 100-140 characters (like a tweet)
  • Ask questions that can be answered in 1 or 2 words
  • Ask Yes/No, True/False or Like/Dislike questions
  • Try multiple choice questions – but keep the choices to fewer than 3!

Here’s an example I just pulled from the Status Ideas Engine:

What’s the first Spanish word that pops in your head?

4. Run Contests

DISCLAIMER: I LOVE CONTESTS – especially on Facebook!!

I’ve won many contests with prizes like free apps, T-shirts & even a 55-inch Samsung LCD TV valued at more than $3,500! Thanks Nick Unsworth!

Today the great thing about Facebook contests is that most of the rules have been eliminated.

You no longer have to house your contest inside a 3rd party app on your page (although there are still lots of reasons to use an app to run your contest).

Now you can simply post a status update to your page and ask fans to Like or comment to enter the contest.
